I cannot recommend this hotel more highly, from booking to leaving.
In advance I called the hotel as our car is higher than average so I was concerned it wouldn’t fit in the underground car park. The very helpful chap I spoke to reserved us a parking space at the front of the hotel.
On arrival we were greeted by a grounds keeper who showed us our space and exchanged pleasantries, that felt like a good start straight away.
When you arrive at the hotel it really is lovely to look at.
When we went in to reception we were quickly seen to despite there being a queue.
The receptionist was friendly and helpful.
You’re hit by the grandeur of this hotel just from the foyer, there are large chandeliers, a lounge with huge leather sofas and chairs and a coal burning fire.
Our room was number one on the ground floor and was really nice. The bed was a bit on the small side but we’re not big people so wasn’t really an issue for us.
The facilities were superb, from the generous tea and coffee packages to the white company toiletries.
There was a fridge stocked with drinks and snacks and a full size ironing board in the wardrobe!
There was a full size bath and power shower, the towels were fluffy and the bedding was comfortable, as well as the mattress.
There was stationary on the ample sized desk/dressing table with mirror and (to my delight but a rarity nowadays) a bible in the drawer.
Room service was available for a charge and there was a full food/drinks menu on the sideboard.
The only thing that let the bedroom down is the view, or lack thereof, as we had a brick wall and fire escape outside our window but tbh it didn’t upset either of us and we were more than happy with the room.
There is a decent bar and the bar man was very hardworking and friendly.
We paid for breakfast and it was lovely, lots of hot food as well as continental and cereals, yogurt and fruit.
The waitresses did take quite a long time to bring hot drinks, I think they forgot til we reminded them but it was probably because they were dealing with quite a large hen party who were noisy and rude! I think that is something that might need reviewing as the families eating didn’t look very happy about it and I can understand why. At one point a girl was literally clicking and shouting at the waitress to get her attention, that’s not okay in my opinion!
We didn’t use the pool or leisure facilities but they looked pretty good.
The hotel is in an ideal position for everything and it’s literally a two minute walk to town and about ten minutes to the beach.
For the price we paid I’m super impressed and I travel often to hotels in the UK.
This is the nicest one I’ve stayed in for quite some time.
It’s worth noting that the car park is £16 for 24hours, I think it’d be better to have an option to have this included in the cost of your stay.
Overall I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this hotel to friends and family but I think the hotel would be much nicer if hen/stag do’s weren’t accepted because the staff and guests shouldn’t have to put up with rowdy or rude people when they’re trying to enjoy their holiday or shift at work.
