We live in Bournemouth, very close to the Norfolk Royale, and pass it regularly. I’ve never stayed at the hotel but today we visited the restaurant for their Sunday carvery and were highly impressed. The meal was by far better than any Toby or pub carvery that we have had before. There was a choice of beef, pork or turkey, or a combination from these. The beef was deliciously tender and cooked medium, which was perfect. The pork was moist and also perfectly cooked. My partner had the turkey, which was a generous portion of good quality, tasty breast meat. There was a selection of crackling, stuffing balls and pigs in blanket which came along with the meat, and large Yorkshire puddings, which were light and crisp. The unlimited vegetable selection was a good variety and it felt like time and effort had been put into their preparation. They didn’t taste “mass-produced” as some carvery veg do. There were buttery carrots, some of the best cauliflower cheese I’ve ever had, perfect roast parsnips, red cabbage, Mediterranean veg mix, roast potatoes, green beans. The gravy was a good consistency and not lumpy. We took the single course for £10.95 option, but could have opted for a two course or three course. There looked to be a good selection of starters and desserts, but to be honest the carvery was big enough to satisfy and leave us feeling full.
The venue is clean and comfortable. As the first day that the carvery is open and as we are out of tourist season still, the restaurant was not packed but there were quite a few other diners. There was a large family group, so if you’re dining in numbers I think it would be fine.
The staff were very polite, attentive and helpful without being intrusive.
We will definitely be back. Probably repeatedly.
